I haven’t been one for roasting so far, especially on this platform but I really cannot hold back this time. I watched the trailer of the Snow White Movie set to release in March 2025 only and only because I wanted to see how wonderfully validated the social media trolls are about it. And oh my, are they validated.
If it was Rachel Zegler’s plan to garner as much negative press as possible for herself and the movie because she believes that controversy equals money, she has succeeded phenomenally. Although it has perhaps already backfired terribly for her and now her and Disney’s PR teams must be smacking their heads over it. It has been two days since the trailer release and the negative press doesn’t seem to be stopping. Disney has been way too brave leaving the comment section open on the trailer and I promise you that the comments are a hundred times for entertaining than the trailer.

Snow White is a beautiful, heart-warming, simple, feel-good tale that we’ve grown up with and the argument that there is no need to ruin to such timeless classics in the name of modernization is being made for a while now. Yet, modern film-makers, especially Disney, seem hell bent on shoving the woke agenda down the audiences’ throats and we’re simply not having it anymore. Ariel was a massive controversy and yet, it was accepted to a great extent by viewers because it was just the race of the main character changed. This time with Snow White, the makers seem to have gone further still by altering the very theme of the movie and making it more ‘feministic’ in their own sense. Rachel Zegler couldn’t shut up about how Snow White’s original romantic angle was ‘weird’ (a statement that she made in a ‘weird’ accent and a despicable expression on her face) and how this time the movie is about her personal growth and her becoming the leader she was meant to be – something that we would have atleast welcomed if Zegler was trained by her PR team to present it with some grace. Not to mention, however, that she is a grave misfit cast to the Snow White character and it was downright cringe watching her trying so hard in the trailer. I cannot imagine getting through the whole movie with her flexing her modernized version of Snow White and believing she’s killing it. The Kristen Stewart version (Snow White and the Huntsman) was tolerable, in fact even entertaining.
The only thing I’m sad about is the film has wasted Gal Gadot in the role of Evil Queen. And for all the talk about inclusivity, the seven dwarfs in the film are all CGI – why?
The simplest counter argument to woke film-makers manipulating classics is that they can simply write new stories to implement their agendas and leave the classics alone. It’s been said thousands of times on the internet and yet, they simply don’t seem to pay heed to it just because ‘they can’ touch the classics and ruin them. I feel like the Snow White Movie will be a harsh answer from the audiences and Disney will finally be forced to grow over its ‘wokeyfying everything’ phase. At least I hope so.
I’m scared for the upcoming Harry Potter series produced by HBO as well. There are already rumours of actors from different cultural backgrounds being cast for lead roles, even that of Alan Rickman. Worse still, one of the writers for the upcoming Harry Potter series, Andy Greenwald openly stated that he has not even read the Harry Potter books and doesn’t want to do a ‘religious’ adaptation of the books. I don’t even know what to say.
I wish the wokes decide to leave the classics alone, please. And I truly wish they’d leave people like Rachel Zegler and Andy Greenwald at a safe distance from the classics. I hope that the Snow White Movie is a good lesson.
