Unconventional Humor in ‘Horrible Bosses’ Movies

I didn’t realize it had been a while since I had literally laughed out loud and evidently enjoyed a movie because I’ve been hung up on period dramas and old romantic movies for a while. I’ve hardly been one to thoroughly enjoy modern day comedies or rom-coms unless I’ve only watched them to unwind. Sure, I have liked the Hangover series and similar movies but the one that got me cracking up wild is the ‘Horrible Bosses’ movies – both first and second part.

Both the movies are stories of the same three guys stuck with, as the name suggests, horrible bosses who exploit them in different ways so they come up with unconventional solutions to rescue themselves. In the second movie they attempt to free themselves completely from being a cog in the machine but in both cases, the plans go terribly wrong leading them into complete messes that are pitiful and hilarious at the same time.

Horrible Bosses are just genuinely funny unlike many movies of the genre that attempt desperately to be funny with desperate jokes that sometimes land and sometimes don’t. There are no ‘deliberately funny’ characters placed just for the sake of it other than one ‘MF’ Jones who adds to the appeal of the movie so is a definite success. The lead trio played by Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day make for an absolute riot. Jennifer Aniston, Jamie Foxx, Kevin Spacey in both the movies and Chris Pine in the second movie add to the charms. Horrible Bosses series is definitely must watch for a good laugh!
