Stranger Things Season 5 | Thoughts

We’ve all grown up since the first season of Stranger Things came out and so have the actors, but more importantly, it’s the stakes of the series that have grown exponentially. And I’m not just talking about the popularity and the hype surrounding it – I’m also talking about the writing and the production of Stranger Things – because the first part of Season 5 has been a banger we’re on our toes waiting for the finale episodes to drop.

The concept has grown from a simple ‘upside down’ to a complex array of complicatedly amalgamated things – supernaturally powerful children (well, now grown up), a villain who rose from within them and now is more powerful beyond anyone’s understanding, the upside down whose proper scientific explanation is yet to unfold, the concept of prisoners being trapped inside Vecna’s mind – there’s absolutely nothing to be not intrigued by. And then to top it all off there’s Will Byers who just ended the first part of season 5 with a display of formidable powers that could give the team a decisive advantage over Vecna. How the most loved expedition in OTT history will manoeuvre through the impossible odds and set Hawkins free from Vecna’s plans for it is going to be one incredible watch.

I love how Stranger Things started off with a relatively simple idea of one child going missing and another being found on the same night. As Will went missing, El was found by the group of friends looking for him and everything spirals. The other-dimensional parallel world that existed right where the normal world was is thrown open and its true potential is still being realized, even as the series draws to a close. It’s a mind-bending combination of physical, metaphysical, scientific and psychological realities that has kept us hooked throughout. We can be sure that the finale episodes will blow our minds further but all we’re hoping for is the survival of the lead characters and NOT a writer’s masterstroke that kills one of the audience favourites just because. The internet is inclined to believe that Steve or Hopper are the likeliest choices to be killed off; but I personally think that it could be Will or El because their powers could lead them to their own destruction. We simply have to keep our fingers crossed and wait though.
