India was taken aback by the terrorist attack that claimed 26 innocent lives at Pahalgam on April 22. Operation Sindoor was a swift and targeted military operation conducted by the Indian Armed Forces on May 7, 2025, in response this terror attack. The operation involved precision missile strikes on nine terrorist infrastructures located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The targeted locations were identified as key operational hubs and training camps belonging to prominent terrorist organizations such as Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and Hizbul Mujahideen (HM). These groups have been responsible for numerous attacks against India. The strikes aimed to dismantle their infrastructure and neutralize terrorists who were planning and directing attacks against India.
The operation was characterized by its precision and focus on terrorist infrastructure, with the Indian government stating that no Pakistani military facilities were targeted, and hence this is in no way an invocation of war. The strikes were conducted from within Indian airspace, demonstrating a measured and non-escalatory approach.
The name ‘Operation Sindoor’ itself carries symbolic weight. ‘Sindoor’ is the vermilion powder traditionally worn by married Hindu women along the parting of their hair, signifying their marital status. In this context, the name served as a poignant reminder of the women who lost their husbands in the Pahalgam attack, effectively conveying a message of avenging their loss and delivering justice to the perpetrators of the terror. The women were spared from death by the terrorists who asked them to “go tell Modi” after their husbands were killed. This swift retaliation against that kind of barbarism has come as a ray of hope for Indians that we are not completely hopeless against terrorism.
Following the operation, Pakistan strongly condemned the strikes, alleging civilian casualties. However, India has maintained that the targets were solely terrorist camps and that the operation was a legitimate act of self-defense against cross-border terrorism. The international has community urged both nations to exercise restraint and de-escalate tensions, but that feels so superficial and partial. If the 26 innocent lives lost and Pahalgam and the numerous terrorist attacks in the past don’t validate this retaliation, it is clear that the world has an agenda against India. Operation Sindoor has marked a significant development in India’s counter-terrorism strategy, signaling a firm stance against terrorism emanating from across its borders; and everyone has a moral, political and patriotic onus to stand in support of it. Moral preaching is not welcome in India when the enemy does not understand the language of peace and has consistently disregarded any attempts of peace from our side.
Operation Sindoor wasn’t about aggression; it was a necessary act of self-defense, a clear message that India will no longer tolerate the shedding of innocent blood on its soil. It demonstrated the country’s resolve and strategic capability to strike at the very infrastructure that breeds and supports this venomous ideology. This operation wasn’t just about retaliation; it was about safeguarding our nation and sending a powerful signal that those who wage war against us in the shadows will face a decisive response. It’s time the world understands that for peace to prevail, the perpetrators of terror must be dealt with firmly and unequivocally. And kindly do not cry that civilians were harmed during Operation Sindoor. A, what could civilians be possibly doing at midnight near terrorist camps? And B, 26 people killed at Pahalgam and countless others killed during previous terrorist attacks were innocent civilians too. We’re truly, truly tired of moral finger-pointing.
Operation Sindoor underscores a paradigm shift in India’s approach, moving beyond passive defense to proactive disruption of terror networks that have long thrived with impunity. This decisive action sends a clear and unequivocal message: India possesses the will and the capability to protect its citizens and will not hesitate to act against those who seek to inflict harm. However, India’s fight against terrorism cannot and should not be a solitary endeavor. The scourge of terrorism is a global menace that recognizes no borders. The international community can no longer afford to offer mere platitudes and moralistic pronouncements while India bears the brunt of cross-border terrorism. The time has come for tangible support, for a unified global stance that unequivocally condemns state-sponsored terrorism and holds accountable those who harbor and nurture these destructive forces.
While the specter of a full-blown war looms large and is a scenario no sane nation desires, inaction in the face of persistent terrorism is not a viable alternative. Allowing terror to fester and spread emboldens extremist ideologies and destabilizes entire regions. Operation Sindoor highlights the delicate balance between exercising restraint and the imperative to act decisively in self-defense. It is a call for the international sphere to recognize this reality and stand shoulder to shoulder with India in this critical fight. Only through collective action and unwavering commitment can we hope to dismantle the infrastructure of terror and secure a reasonable future. The world must understand that supporting India in its fight against terrorism is not merely an act of solidarity, but a crucial investment in global peace and stability.
