I think the right is way more accommodating of contradicting opinions than the left. This has been proven time and again with the rampant cancel culture, and now even with the shocking assassination of Charlie Kirk in USA. As an Indian, this incident bears no direct consequence to me, but I knew about him from social media and his videos popped up on my feed quite often so the incident feels closer than it is.
I agreed with some things Charlie Kirk said and disagreed with some. He often offered convincing answers to outrageous questions from left-leaning individuals and there have been instances where he failed to be reasonable enough as well, especially when he went to Cambridge and had to face some truly well prepared individuals.
Now, I don’t need to reiterate how unjustified his murder is. Anyone with basic common sense can conclude that killing someone because they had opinions and political stance that contradicted ours is a crime as horrendous as any other. The point that I want to make here is that the left is exactly the atrocity that it so desperately tries to rebel against. This is as true in India as it is in America.
I never came across an instance where Charlie Kirk attacked anyone. He held his own in debates and was rather unbeatable with logic for most people. And because he could not be beaten in debate, he was permanently silenced. This only shows that reasonable debate is never an option with extreme left. They’ll do everything they can to shove their ideas down your throat, they’ll reach your children to brainwash them early on, hijack the education system so that an army of impressionable minds can be turned to their side, and when someone counters them strongly, they’ll either cancel them, call them fascist, or outright shoot them in broad daylight.
Ironic isn’t it, that the advocates of free speech are the ones celebrating the hardest over the assassination of Charlie Kirk. This incident is a complete embodiment of what the left ideology stands for – forced indoctrination, or elimination.
I do think that the assassination will achieve precisely the opposite of what it intended. Yes, Charlie Kirk is silenced, but hundreds will rise in his place because now the conservative peace is shattered and the common man often turns into a soldier when such things happen. Interesting times lay ahead for America. Perhaps we’ll hear a lot from the country in connection to how it reacts to Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
