‘Petition to write more poems’, he said.
How far would you go to honour someone’s love for you?
As far as crossing social boundaries for them?
As far as ignoring your own limitations for them?
As far as writing more poems for them?
How undervalued is love that you can’t reciprocate
Because the chaos that don’t reach your heart engulf your mind
And you let go, the love that could change your life
Only so at some point you crave as much as a fragment of it.
How far would you go to get it back?
Could you honour the love that you know won’t last?
In ways that etch in your mind as memories forever
In ways that delight the heart that pours itself out to you
In ways that you’re assured beyond doubt of your worth
How far would you go not to break that prized heart?
I’ve played those moments of gratification over and over
Smiled in isolation over the affection that has warmed my heart
Lamented in regret that the affection cannot last
Pondered how far I could go to yet treasure all that has been
So here, my precious, I came as far as writing more poems for you.
