The undeserved pedestal

I put you on a pedestal you didn’t deserve to stand on.

Because I fell in love with you

Because I assumed you loved me too

I put you on a pedestal you didn’t deserve to stand on.

I looked up to see a divine being

That brought happiness and bliss

And in delusion that this will last a lifetime

I put you on a pedestal you didn’t deserve to stand on.

Little did I realise the goodwill was short lived

And the warmth was after all shallow

And one day you’d make me cringe and repent

That I put you on a pedestal you didn’t deserve to stand on.

I wronged through loving perceptions of you

By letting me believe it was all true

It all ended up being haunting memories that cry

I put you on a pedestal you didn’t deserve to stand on.

Each day I awaited better responses

As each day I made heartfelt advances

But all that came were red flags that yelled out

I put you on a pedestal you didn’t deserve to stand on.

Now that it has dawned hard

Now that I’ve repented not seeing through

I’ll always take a step back and evade

Putting people on pedestals they don’t deserve to stand on.
